The upper grades (3-5) have been very busy delving into research. It takes time and energy to develop these life-long skills and all 3 grade levels are either AT the synthesis part of the Big6 Research model, where we actually create something from our research we've gathered, or are very close. The 4th graders have been in the computer lab the last 2 sessions with me creating Powerpoint presentations from the research they have done on their various Lewis and Clark Expedition related topics. Once finished, they will use these to teach their fellow classmates about the topic they researched. They will also create questions based on their presentations which will be added to the others from their class for a rousing game of "Lewis and Clark Jeopardy."
I am very proud of our 4th graders. Most have worked diligently throughout the process and I am grateful to the 4th grade team for working out a before school checkout schedule with their classes so our entire session can be dedicated to our projects. I do believe it will all be worth the effort and schedule changes for the information literacy and social studies content learned! :) These kiddos have done research first hand and are pretty impressive to see in action!
