This week our second graders got to enjoy another one of the Washington Children's Choice Picture Award Nominees, Cambria Evan's Bone Soup. Having read the traditional folktale Stone Soup in their classrooms, we thoroughly enjoyed comparing and contrasting these titles. All of us were unanimous in deciding that, given the choice, we'd rather sample the Stone Soup, thank you very much! Bat wings, toe nail clippings, and spider eggs were not on our list of "must have" ingredients. :)
It was a fun read and we are getting nearer to voting time, so Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade are busy finishing up as many of these exciting titles as we can. If you get the chance to visit the local library, I hope you'll ask about some of these wonderful titles!
Our upper grades are still busy, busy, busy in research, but soon we'll have some wonderful products to share with you as ALL of our classes are in the synthesis part of the Big6 process (well, 3rd grade uses Super3, so we call that the "DO" part of "Plan, Do, Review"), which is step 5, so we are excited! Some of our 4th graders have discovered that, as they work on their PowerPoint presentations, they will need to go back to steps 3 and 4 again to gather a bit more information to meet their social studies goals!
